The hydrogen-energy is currently an important and essential core value of the future world energy “mix”: it can be integrated into power systems, considered for energy storage, either embedded (electric and hybrid vehicles) or involved in stationary applications (off-grid power supplies, renewable energy storage).
For nearly 20 years, the members of the FCLAB federation have been developing research and innovation activities in the field of integration of hydrogen systems into transport and stationary applications. The considered approach is a “top-down” ones: the aim is to identify, in relation with the industry key players in the sector, the technological barriers to be tackled and translate them into scientific challenges. This approach is complementary to that, more “bottom-up”, from the material to the object, developed within the electrochemistry laboratories. By working at the “two ends” simultaneously, the idea is to gain efficiency and accelerate developments on hydrogen-energy relating systems.
The actions of FCLAB are as follows, according to:
– 4 application axes, linked to industrial developments:
Micro-CHP based on hydrogen;
Coupling with renewable energies, hydrogen-base electricity storage;
Hydrogen transportation and mobility, fuel cell electric vehicles;
Solid-state storage of hydrogen
– 4 bases of scientific skills and know-how:
Design and integration of fuel cell subsystems;
Performance analysis and durability of fuel cells and water electrolysers;
Optimization & architecture of hybrid fuel cell systems;
Socio-technical transition to a sustainable hydrogen-energy economy
